Why I’m not a standup comedian

Did you hear the one about why dogs have no money?

When I heard it, I definitely chuckled. However, when I tried to tell it myself, no one laughed.

You see, I cannot tell a joke.

It’s a genetic issue, as apparently my maternal grandfather suffered from the same condition.

I’ll hear a joke or something funny will happen at work, I share it with my husband, with a friend or one of my co-workers. They never find it as funny as I think it is.

It loses something in the telling.

However, give me a pen or a keyboard, and I can write you a story that will tug at your heartstrings, bring a smile to your face or even make you laugh out loud.

Just one of the many reasons I’m a writer and not a stand-up comedian.
