December has arrived. How are you doing on everything you wanted to accomplish this year?
Year-end is crunch time. Squeezing in those last minute projects and wrapping up work, often while enjoying a bit of festive cheer.
Amongst all of the busy-ness, it’s important to take time to reflect and celebrate what you’ve accomplished this year and also not lose sight of what your goals were way back at the start of 2017.
Over the course of a year, our focus can shift. Sometimes your business heads in a new direction or new opportunities come up that you have to pursue. However, sometimes things slide just a little bit. Going back and remembering how you started the year can be a useful way to assess if you’ve spent your time where it can have the biggest impact.
And if you haven’t, there’s still time.
Book an early meeting with yourself to sit down and look back. You don’t need to set aside hours–you probably don’t have them. Try for 15 or 30 minutes. Be critical about what you’ve done and what’s undone. Pick a handful of things that you can move on before the end of the year.
This simple prioritization exercise can be a useful tool to focus your work between now and the end of the month.
As a result of this effort, you can increase your productivity as the year winds down and start 2018 with new energy and direction.
How have you done this year? Have you kept on track?
