Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton

Anxiety. Depression. Suicide. There is a crisis in mental health. In Canada, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health notes that more than 6.7 million people struggle with mental illness, and “over 4,000 Canadians die by suicide every year.” This is about 11 people every day.

The Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton (SPCCH) is aiming to change that. The Council is working to reduce suicide and promote hope, help and healing.
Communication is key to SPCCH’s mission.

I worked with the Council to assess their email and social media outreach. I analysed their existing communications to see what was working, where they could improve and what their needs were. Then I developed a variety of templates and a how-to user guide to ensure that they can share impactful, helpful messages that advance their work.

“Recently, we worked with Julia at 129 Communications to improve our social media presence. She conducted a very thorough brand audit and came back with many fantastic recommendations. She built out a number of brand templates in both Canva and Mailchimp that will enable us to simplify our postings and stay on brand with colour, font and presentation. Julia is an expert in her field, over-delivered and was on time for all aspects of our project. She is delightful to work with and really understood our work. Her values and work ethic were evident in everything that she did. We would love to work with her for future projects!”

As a charitable volunteer organization, SPCCH’s budget was small, but their commitment was high. Ensuring their messages are effective and that they have the tools they need enables them to further their leadership, advocacy, and education. By reaching affected communities, sharing helpful information, and engaging with partners, SPCCH is promoting awareness and creating much needed change.
